Defining a focus and setting a strategy

Defining an area of focus enables businesses to be more strategic with their philanthropy and to maximise the impact of their giving. NPC works with businesses and corporate foundations in several ways, to help them define a focus for giving and set a strategy:

  • We help to match company interests, capabilities and goals with an understanding of pressing social needs. From this, we can define a relevant focus for giving, which is narrow enough to achieve impact.
  • We help to set long-term objectives for a giving programme, alongside short-term, measurable, realistic goals that employees and board members can relate to.
  • We offer support with the mechanics of grant-making, such as sourcing, vetting and funding charities.

Case study: The business of giving

A company decided to outsource the majority of its grant-making to NPC. We identified charities within its focus area, with a variety of income, geography and risk profile, and undertook full due diligence on each of them. We then managed the entire funding process, which included drafting grant agreements, carrying out annual grant reporting and triggering release of grant instalments as well as organising and facilitating annual workshops for the grantee charities.
