Research for charities and funders

NPC produces high quality and independent research into the third sector for funders, charities, trusted advisors and government. Our reports are seen as required reading for anyone wanting to build their knowledge of social problems and the charity sector. Read here how we carry out our research.

Sector research explores issues such as child abuse and homelessness, examining the need, looking at what approaches work, what government is doing, and where charities contribute to providing services and solving problems. Our research has many uses, from helping funders to plan their giving, to helping charities to engage their funders, induct new trustees and staff, and make management decisions.

Structural research examines broader challenges facing the charity sector, and strives to find solutions. This could include anything from weak trustee boards to high funder reporting burdens on charities.

Research on measurement examines how charities can be supported to measure and communicate their results, produces tools to help charities achieve this, and encourages funders to think about their own impact and that of their grantees.

NPC's charity analysis

NPC has been analysing charities for seven years. The little blue book describes the approach we take to analysing charities.

If you are a funder or charity interested in commissioning research or charity analysis from NPC, please contact us to discuss areas of interest and availability.

'NPC is an independent charity that analyses charity performance in social welfare... Ministers privately speak approvingly of NPC and its attempt to separate fact from myth in the opaque world of charity performance.'
